MINUTES: Read and approved

EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION: Diana spoke about Pet Summer Safety and the special hazards that are present in the summer months, including July 4th safety tips.  She stressed the importance of prevention and also discussed some methods to help keep your pets healthy and safe during the hot months.

UPDATES AND REPORTS:

Rummage Sale – Sharon. Long, but successful.  The total income was nearly $4000.  After expenses, the event netted $3,675.43!

CCAT, TNR, Draft Mission/Statement: – DonnaTo date, 120 cats have been trapped.  The response has been overwhelmingly positive and has sparked community interest. Mark Cafferty and Homeowners are happy with the program. Treatment for Mimi, the cat with the cleft palate will be discussed.  Feeding stations are up.  Transport is needed for cats and there is a real need for temporary fosters. The cats need very little space and sometimes only need to be sheltered for a day.  Please help if you can, and share this request!

Membership Report/Telosa -CherylMemberships are increasing.  Email blasts must be sent to Cheryl with text.  Please try to send them a week in advance of the event

Annual Dinner – Dinner TeamA date of October 22 has been set for the dinner.  Cheryl has a tentative keynote speaker, and the team meets to discuss further plans.  We will need to reapply for a gaming license.

Education Program – AnnemarieThe only presentation was at Adams School this year. The program at Livingston School was canceled.  Since students continue to test and the end of the school year is so close, Livingston Park, 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Shamy has agreed to present the program to the students.

Discount Cards/Scala Bakery- SusanAdditional cards were sold at the Rummage Sale and Gallery Salon.  Sales profit: $687!  Cards will be available at SCAD, the Municipal Building, and Road Runner Shoes on July 19.Scala Bakery donated $24 for the NBHA promotion sale of their dog biscuits.

EVENTS AND NEW BUSINESS

Cat Adoption at Road Runner -Jay. Road Runner Sports, 501 Shoppes Blvd. North Brunswick, will host a Cat Adoption on July 19 from 1-4.  Refreshments will be provided and gift bags will be distributed.  Please email Jay at JNMuttley2@aol.com if you are able to volunteer.

Volunteer Guidlines and By-Laws – JayJay will meet with committee members to discuss by-laws and volunteer Guidelines in the near future.

Bowling Event – Jay, Cheryl Date has been set for September 20. Hilary made up paw prints that we can use for donations and the bowling alley is offering free games for this event.  More details to follow. The possibility of forming an NBHA league will be discussed in the future.

SCAD – Lisa Discount Cards, T-Shirts, and Flyers for Mr.Subs event will be available at the SCAD.  Lisa sent emails to those who volunteered for the project with complete instructions for the day.  Set up will be on Friday.  Girl Scouts will be there at 5PM on Friday.  The NBHA table should be set up by 7AM on Saturday. Everyone is encouraged to try Mr. C.’s Food Truck!

Milltown Parade – Sharon Sharon circulated a sign-up sheet for members who would like to participate in the Milltown 4th of July Parade. Sharon has candy for handouts as well as an NBHA banner.   Please bring your pets.  Water will be available. This will be a great PR event.

Dog Walk – Michele, Dan The Dog Walk will be held on October 5.  The permit was approved.  The budget is $2000. Motion for tote bags instead of T-Shirts for the event was approved.  How to encourage sponsors will be discussed. One suggestion was a “Sponsor Board”. Monthly updates, and more details to follow.

Cat Food Drive at Stop & Shop – Michele Stop & Shop will hold a cat food drive on July 12, from 10AM-3:30PM.  Michele circulated a request for volunteers.

Youth Group Outreach – Michele NBHA will continue outreach for volunteers from the youth group and discuss the ways that they can help.

Feral Cat Day-Shelters, Training -Donna  Feral Cat Day is October 16.  Donna suggested to start a project with youth group, key club, or scouts to construct community cat shelters sometime in August or September.

A TNR training will be held at the Unitarian Society, 176 Tices Lane, East Brunswick on July 19, from 12PM-4PM.  NBHA.  Please try to attend.  If you can help with registration, set-up or clean up, please let Donna know at/before our next meeting.

Psychic Event – Diana  Plans for a Pet Psychic Event. Ideal date would be at the end of October.  Date/Details to follow

Contact Info – Diana, Hilary  Please share your contact information as well as your skills, interests, and any suggestions for calendar events with Diana.  Hilary will create a list, as well as a calendar.

Meeting Locations – Diana, Members  NBHA always needs locations for events and other meeting places  Please bring ideas to the meeting to share.

OTHER DISCUSSIONS

Michele requested information about any vet or organization that might donate wheelchairs for dogs.  If anyone has information, please share at or before our next meeting.
